This webinar provides a fast and furious introduction to Power BI Desktop, Microsoft’s primary tool for creating custom solutions using the Power BI platform. The webinar begins by showing you how to get up and running with Power BI Desktop and by demonstrating how the project-based nature of this tool allows you to create datasets and reports that can be saved to local PBIX files during development and then published to the Power BI service for deployment. You will learn how to create and design queries that extract data from a rich variety of data sources to generate a set of tables in the dataset for a Power BI Desktop project. Next, you will learn how to use the data modeling features in Power BI Desktop to extend a project’s dataset with calculated columns, measure and drilldown hierarchies. After that, the webinar demonstrates how to create reports with effective data visualizations and interactive controls for filtering and drilldown. The webinar concludes with a discussion of project lifecycle management and tips for managing Power BI Desktop projects to ensure a smooth transition from the development phase to the initial deployment phase and then on to the ongoing maintenance phase.
